What is a hot tub?

A hot tub is a water-filled bathing tub in which the water is heated by a stove or an electric heater. It is intended for outdoor use and is usually placed in the garden or on a terrace. In most cases, a hot tub consists of a plastic shell with exterior wooden cladding, which helps reduce the risk of leaks.

The ideal water temperature depends on personal preference as well as the outside temperature. In most cases, 35 to 38 °C is recommended. A ladder or steps make entry easier, while built-in seating increases comfort and ensures a pleasant bathing experience.

A hot tub is not only suitable for winter use. In summer, it can also be used as a refreshing place to cool down, making it an enjoyable solution all year round.

Hot tubs – also known as barrel tubs, bathing tubs, or spa tubs – have a long tradition and originate from Scandinavia. Natural hot springs in that region inspired the development of today’s hot tub. As a “hot bath,” it quickly found its place in private gardens. While hot tubs have long been established in Scandinavian countries, they are now becoming increasingly popular in many other parts of Europe as well. Especially during the colder months, a warm bath under the open sky is hard to resist – romantic, relaxing, and deeply soothing.
